It is fireworks time. A lot of dogs and cats hate fireworks time. The noise can be frightening and unpleasant. Many of the humane societies say that fireworks time causes the greatest influx of lost pets.
Me, I'm not frightened. My Mom listens to the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky and we try to time the explosions... it is rare that we succeed. I understand that people want to have their fun. In the states they are celebrating an independence from royal rule, or summer, or a day off from work, or maybe just that things go BOOM. if I have one gripe it is only that our summers have lately been so dry! The grass is crispy; mere tinder for a spark! Every time a firecracker goes off I wince and wait for the smell of smoke. On the news programs my parents have on the TV I see Colorado and I ache as it burns. Closer to home, a few acres of brushfire erupted on the side of the freeway probably due to a smoker's errant butt. It makes me nervous. Would that everyone would be cautious!!! But sometimes people are too intent on having fun to really think... BOOM time can be hard on pets for many reasons. Please remind your friends and family to be careful not only for the critters
